Get-togethers this holiday season don’t have to be all about eating and drinking. Christmas presents don’t have to be store bought either. Use these fun ideas to either be holiday party activities or to make thoughtful gifts for your friends and family this year.
Wreath Making
Stop by your local Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree or Michaels to get supplies.
- Metal wreath or vine wreath
- Greenery of your choice
- Pinecones
- Flowers - dried or silk
- Bowes
- Feathers or other unique to you items
- Wire or zip ties to fasten items to wreath
- Dried Fruit
Set up a space to assemble your wreaths. Be creative in your own way. Simplicity is often best. Need to spark some ideas? Search Pinterest for wreath examples. Here are a couple short videos to help you get started.
Room Spray
Room sprays are a very simple gift to make for people or to do at a get-together. They are less creatively intimidating too.
Here’s what you will need:
- Spray bottles. 12oz-16oz
- Water
- Essential oils
- Labels
Fill your spray bottle with water and add essential oils of your choice. Use only about 5 drops per oil if using multiple or 10 if using one oil. Consider oils like the following that will provide a fresh clean scent and cleansing properties. This spray can also be used for a surface cleaner by choosing oils for their antibacterial or antimicrobial properties.
- Peppermint Oil
- Lemon Oil
- Orange Oil
- Lemongrass Oil
- Eucalyptus Oil
- Lavender Oil
** Essential oils are a great addition to anyone’s home apothecary, but use with caution as they are highly concentrated and should not be ingested or used on the skin directly. Always mix your oils with a lotion or another oil before using.
Herbal Tea Making
The last homemade gift idea or party activity I have for you is making loose leaf herbal tea. Blend up the perfect tea for you and then brew while you visit. Take a moment to consider what tea you would like to make. For example, are you looking for a season tea or do you have a wellness need to correct? Order herbs accordingly.
What you will need:
- Dried Herbs -
- Sealable pouches or paper bags
- Bowls
- Canisters *optional
- Glass jars *optional
Pick your herbal profile. Do you want it to be fruity, floral, or earthy? Start with using one spoonful of each herb and brew a small cup of that tea. If you like the flavor, continue making the size bag of your choice following a 1-1 ratio. 1-1 ratio means using the same amount of each herb that you put in.
Use the pouches to store your tea or use an airtight container like a mason jar or tin canister. You can also purchase disposable tea bags and fill them with your newly made tea making it easier and more convenient to make your new tea.
